DOÑANA Biological Station

Description:

Doñana Biological Station (DBS) is an Institute for Research of Spanish Council for Scientific Research (CSIC) state in Seville. Some of its main goals are conservation and improving research of quality in Doñana Biological Reserve (DBR), which was declared Humanity Patrimony in 1994 and considered as one of the most important natural protected landscapes in the world. Also in this year, DBR was included inside Great Scientific Infrastructures of European Union. In April of 2006, Spanish Interministerial Comission of Science and Technology (CICYT) from Spanish Science and Education Department recognized as Singular Scientific and Technological Infrastructure (ICTS) to the Doñana Scientific Reserve.

DBS counts with a series of sensors and webcams that can produce information about the following topics:

  •   Meteorology
  • Atmosphere and contamination
  • Limnology
  • Geomorphology
  • Flora
  • Monitoring of CO2 Flow
  • Soils
  • Changes of land use
  • Fauna
  • Geolocation

Activities:

  • Scientific documentary contest: With the help of the webcams students will be able to create their own documentaries that could be later take part on a national or international contest.
  • Virtual visit with Q & A with scientist from Doñana.
  • Quiz game, where students have to guess the animal species or plant in the photography.
  • Access to data from webcams and sensors on the topics mentioned above
