Fluorescence microscope @ BIFI

Description:

Leica DMI6000B inverted fluorescence microscope completely automated with temperature/CO2 control chamber for live cell imaging, structured illumination (OptiGrid) and Metamorph Software for microscope control and image processing and analysis. The microscope is currently being use for the investigation of new drugs, cell cloning and DNA extraction and research.

Activities:

  •  A live guided online visit is being developed so the students could learn the whole process of research and development of new drugs. During the visit a scientist will be present so students could ask questions and direct the microscope so the experience will be more interactive.
  • The pictures from the microscope are transferred to the internet via live camera.
  • Pictures from cells under the microscope are prepared and students can guess and learn what they see on the picture (e.g. a cancerous cell)
